Themes for 2019

First of all, my apologies for neglecting this blog just lately.  When life gets busy, something has to give and you all seemed to be happy stitching and posting which was good.

If people would like to keep stitching into 2019 that would be wonderful.  I will do my best to join in when I can.

I had a look at the Hallowe'en SAL in Stitch Maynia and thought it would be a nice idea to follow their themes so that those of us who belong to the FB group can join in both SALs in the same month.  I expanded a couple of categories just for our blog.  So here they are:

January - H is for Haunted House
February - A is for Addams Family (or any spooky characters)
March - L is for Lantern, Jack O’
April - L is for Loot
May - O is for October
June - W is for Witch
July - E is for Eek (or anything scary)
August - E is for Eyeballs (or any body part including skeletons)
September - N is for Night
October - B is for Bat
November - O is for Orange and Black
December - O is for Owls

I did fully-finish my Hallowe'en piece for 2018 and here it is:

Jardin Prive - Happy Hallowe'en Night

Stitched on 32 count Cognac linen

I had a couple more spooky finishes in 2018:

Dam Good Crafts - Dracula

JBW - Smiling Jack O'Lanterns

Plum Street Samplers - Brew Ha Ha

Just Nan - Haunted Autumn Mouse in a House

And I completed the lettering on my Spooky conversion of The Enchanted Alphabet by Lavender and Lace:

Steph's Free Choice - Boo Club finished!

Hello friends, I'm popping in to share my Boo Club which I finished December 26th with a few buttons (as included in the charts) and brass charms (my addition).
Here's a close up of the bottom section.  That bottom border was a lot of fun to stitch!
It's been lovely participating in this SAL.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Steph's October Monster

I had so much fun stitching this piece at my retreat, StitchFest, last weekend, in Virginia, USA.  If you ever get a chance to attend a retreat, please do.  There's nothing like enjoying the camaderie of stitching friends when you have nothing to do but relax and stitch.  The WDW Guacomole floss stitched up nicely in Frankie's face.

He looks a little funny without eyes; those will be black buttons attached later.  Happy stitching everyone and enjoy a spook-tacular Halloween!

Steph's Witch

I love Witches!  This little piece took 2 days to stitch and it was lots of fun.

Boo club is getting close to finished...

Prairie Schooler Book 188 - Trick or Treat

July - Pumpkins

Prairie Schooler Mini Card companion to Book 189 Boo Moon

Have a great stitchy day every one!

September - Witches & November Ghosts

I've got other projects to do before Halloween so I finished that Gaynor French design.  Really like the way the tea dying of the completed piece made it look vintage.

August - Haunted House

Steph's Haunted House(s)

I definitely have a thing for haunted houses... so I'll share 2 pieces today.
The Boo Club Fright line took a few days to stitch this month.

The larger piece in my rotation is Spooky House, by X's and Oh's.  This is a major project with all the good stuff (blends, fractionals, metallic, backstitch etc).
Happy haunting friends!

Cheryl's August Spooky Old House

Here is my "Spooky Old House" for August!

This is one of my little freebie Halloween designs, so you can grab a copy from my website here: http://hobbyloco.com/patterns/oldhouse.html

I like to stitch on plastic canvas, as projects can be easily finished by adding a felt backing and some ribbon, beads or buttons.

Catching up June and July

Spooky Tree and pumpkins ! ! !  Stitched  on 18 count aida.

In The Deep, Dark Woods
By Gaynor French

I think I'm going to tea dye the whole piece after it's stitched.  Hopefully, it will look like an antique piece.

Steph's Pumpkin

Hi friends, it's July and I'm feeling like stitching Christmas, not Halloween, but I'm staying on track with my spooky rotation.  Pumpkin turned out pretty cute, though the jack o'lantern is missing his eyes (tiny black buttons, I will sew on later).

Next month is the haunted house, I'm looking forward to that!

Steph's Creepy Tree

Hi friends, I'm back to share my creepy tree.  Creepy took a day to stitch, not bad.  The little detail in this piece is so fun.. the gravestone and the owl turned out super cute.  I also went searching for brass charms to embellish this piece and found some spooky ones.  I will use some of the buttons as included with the charts, but I like charms as well.
I'm pleased to report Boo Club is now half finished!

Jo's June Stitching - Creepy Trees

I've been stitching away on my chosen project for this year but forgetting to post.  So here's a resume of the last three months:

April - Spiders

May - nothing Green so I stitched the rest of the word Hallowe'en

June - Creepy Trees

The whole piece so far:

stitched on 32 count Cognac linen

I already stitched the pumpkins for last year so I'm going to work on the graveyard and the other creepy tree for July ready for the Haunted House in August.

Tamra's May Green Things

My ornament this month is Prairie Schooler's extra ornament from chart 196 Nevermore.  The grey has a great green undertone so I am shoe horning this month lol.  I'm sure there has to be some green moss on this in the grave yard :)

Sunday 3 June 2018

Steph's Green Frog

May was a super busy month with Maynia, visits, travel, etc, but luckily I was able to squeeze my Boo Club piece into one day.  The frog was a fun stitch and I like that you can see the variegation of the Weeks floss in the frog's belly.

Hopefully this guy will keep all the bad frogs away!

Gwen: May Green Things

I finally have something to post.

Frankie: from Praiseworthy Stitches, Halloween Frights Treat Box will eventually be needlebook.

My Candy Corn/Food finish for February is from the same set. A Candy Corn that will be finished as a scissor fob.

It's great seeing all the stitching that's getting done. I haven't had the opportunity to visit all the blogs but I'm encouraged by all of your posts. Hope to be able to contribute again next month.

Cheryl's April Spider

Instead of stitching an ornament this month, I pulled out my "Halloween Collage" sampler and stitched a spider.

"Halloween Collage" by Sharon Pope can be found in the JCS 2014 Halloween Issue.

I'm really creeping along on this project.

Here is what the entire sampler looks like:

Spooky Stitching!

Tamra's Spider

So little stitching done in April.  Just put the last stitch in this Halloween ornament.  Hoping to get my Christmas one stitched during a 435 km drive to my local needle work store on Friday.  So happy to be getting out of Fort McMurray for a little jaunt.  Cabin fever surly had set in.

Prairie Schooler Book 165 Sweeping Cobwebs
32 lambswool linen, Dinky Dyes Vintage Newsprint instead of DMC 3371

Stephanie's Spiders

Here's my update on Boo Club... only took 1 day this time.  Though, I nearly lost motivation when backstitching the spider legs!   Those are a lot of tiny stitches, some over 1.  And the "empty" spiders will be filled in with black buttons.

Boo Club remains a fun diversion from some of my BAPs.

Margi's Black Cat

Designed by Susan Aldrich .  The same designer that did the candy corn I stitched last month.  Freebie at www.cyberstitchers.com

This was a fun little piece to stitch.

Friday 30 March 2018

Cheryl's Black Cat

For my March ornament, I selected a chart from the 2013 Just Cross Stitch Halloween Issue.  The design is "Stitch-an-Inch Halloween" by Donna Bayliss of "By the Bay Needleart".

I stitched the pattern on 14 ct clear plastic canvas.  I backed it with black felt, pinked the edge and added a black satin ribbon and purple buttons to finish.

Tuesday 27 March 2018

Tamra's Black Cat

Prairie Schooler Book 200 Witching Hour.  One of the bonus designs. 32 lambswool linen.  Changed the dmc black out for Dinky Dyes Vintage Newsprint.  Great coverage.

Tuesday 20 March 2018

Stephanie's Black Cat

Here's my March Boo Club stitching... cute little black cat, it will have tiny white buttons for eyes but I'll add that later.  Black cats are my favorite, btw.  It took 3 days to stitch this, because.... life.  We booked a vacation for later this year and I got sucked into the vortex that is Disney trip planning. And I lost one of my DMC's... (the purple).  Quite maddening because I had it in hand last month.  Oh well, hopefully next month will be better!

Sunday 11 March 2018

Jo's March Stitching - Black Cats

I love black cats, they are my favourite of all cats and luckily my Happy Hallowe'en Night by Jardin Prive has two of them.

Here is the first one:

stitched on 32 count Cognac linen

The other cat is flying high on a broomstick so will be added later with the witch.

Here is the full piece so far:

Next month is Spiders and there is a very small one just above the cat's head.  Then I'll stitch some more of the lettering.

Thursday 8 March 2018

January and February Ornies......

Hmmm!  A bit behind (when am I ever not behind?) so far this year but I am now caught up, I think.

January Ornament: Winged Creatures

Dancing Witches by Needlebling Designs
Stitched on over-dyed purple linen with my own choice of floss colours.

This is what the final piece will look like one day....

(I am saving the dancing witches on the bottom for September and the tree will fit in with June's theme).

February Ornament:  Candy Corn and Food

Witch's Kitchen a freebie by The Primitive Hare
Unknown cream linen
I changed the colours quite a bit, you can see, if you look at Isabella's original piece...

I hope that you like my changes.

I am busily stitching my black cat - so maybe she will be finished by March 31st- one can only dream!

hugs,
